Direct-tension-indicator SmartBolts® set up proper tension with no need for torque wrenches gages, wires, or electronic or ultrasonic equipment. They provide visual indication of tension in fasteners at installation or a later time. The degree of bolt tension can be estimated by the indicator color. The indication is bright red when loose and darkens to a deep black as the bolt is tightened. SmartBolts® can be tightened and loosened thousands of times without loss of accuracy. A loose fastener can be spotted at a distance, and in some cases, in moving machinery. Standard tension accuracy is +- 10%. Indication is based on actual bolt elongation under load.
